2026 Salone del Mobile trends: bathrooms, cookers and Italian design

A Salone del Mobile trends this year have again shown where the world of interior design is heading: spaces are becoming more personal, more sensual and more boldly characterful. Milan 2026 took place from 21-26 April 2026 at Fiera Milano Rho and featured furniture, kitchens, bathrooms, lighting, office solutions and home accessories.

Although it is almost impossible to include everything at an exhibition like this, three areas stood out this year because of the sheer number of projects currently underway: bathroom details, freestanding stoves and stands from Italian design brands. These not only acted as inspiration, but also very well mapped out the interior trends for the coming period.

Salone del Mobile trends in the bathroom

In recent years, the bathroom has increasingly moved beyond a purely functional role. It is no longer just about being practical, but also about how it feels to be in it. The Salone's official bathroom exhibition, the International Bathroom Exhibition 2026, has confirmed this trend: the bathroom is now an important place for sustainable interior design, composition, furniture, finishes and the overall experience of space.

This year I was mainly looking at taps, baths and surfaces. From AXOR, a Mamoli, a Sanycces and the Devon&Devon have shown in very different ways how much potential there is in this space.

AXOR, the premium design brand of the Hansgrohe Group, is built on luxury water experience, detail and personalisation. The idea of a unique bathroom space is strongly present in their concept presented at Salone.

Founded in Milan in 1932, Mamoli is an Italian brand of taps and faucets, known in the Italian and international market for its triad of design, technology and quality. The Spanish bathroom brand Sanycces has been specialising in baths, washbasins, shower solutions and related bathroom elements with a Mediterranean approach since 1993.

But for me, in this category, the Devon&Devon was the closest. The Florentine brand was founded in 1989 and offers complete, coordinated luxury interior solutions with a particularly strong bathroom world. Seeing and feeling these materials live was a very different experience to looking at them in pictures. The bathtubs, faucets and finishes here are no longer simple products, but mood elements.

Kitchen focal points and free-standing cookers

In the kitchen, the most exciting thing for me now was the world of freestanding cookers. I've long loved these pieces because a well-chosen stove is not only a functional element, but can set the mood for the whole space.

At the Salone and EuroCucina 2026, it was particularly clear that the kitchen is no longer a back room. At EuroCucina, the future of kitchens was a key theme, and Salone has been one of the most important events in the international furniture and design world since 1961.

In this topic, I paid more attention to three brands: La Cornue, De Manincor and Smeg.

French luxury brand La Cornue has over a century of heritage and is known for its artisanal details, French savoir-faire approach and timeless aesthetic. The Italian brand De Manincor has been building on its tradition of cookers, cooking appliances and metalworking since 1828, with a focus on quality, durability and detailed craftsmanship.

A Smeg has a very different character: iconic shapes, colours and easily recognisable designs. What the three brands have in common is that none of them thinks of kitchen appliances as a background element. Instead, they treat them as objects around which a whole kitchen concept can be built.

Luckily for me, it looks like several of my projects will soon require freestanding stoves, so this was a particularly useful inspiration. Based on the kitchen trends for 2026-2027, I increasingly see that appliances will not be hidden elements, but consciously displayed, characterful focal points.

Salone del Mobile Italian design trends

The most exciting thing about the Italian brands this year was the amount of character they could bring to a space. I didn't just see beautiful stands, I saw well-constructed atmospheres where material, light, colour and form worked together.

Our favourite brands include Cattelan Italy, a Frigerio, a Giulio Marelli and the MDF Italy were now in focus.

Cattelan Italia is an Italian designer furniture brand known for its modern tables, chairs and interior solutions. Frigerio is an Italian family furniture brand that started in 1938 and produces premium sofas, seating and sophisticated upholstery solutions. In 2026, the brand appeared at the Salone del Mobile with the Metamorphosis Collection concept.

This year, for me, it's definitely Frigerio took the lead. The glass brickwork was very cool, as was the fireplace installation, and their colour choices proved bolder than many other stands. This was particularly exciting because it didn't create an over-decorated effect, but one with character.

Giulio Marelli presented modern, elegant furniture that can be easily combined, while MDF Italia approached the show from a more streamlined, light and flexible space. Together, they showed that Italian design remains elegant, but with increasing scope for more personal, bolder choices.

What do the interior trends for 2026-2027 show?

A Salone del Mobile trends in the coming period, interiors will be less sterile showroom-like. There will be a greater emphasis on the material experience, tactility, character and the kind of personality that makes a space truly liveable.

In the bathroom, baths, taps and surfaces are increasingly becoming jewel-like details. In the kitchen, cookers and appliances are becoming focal points. And Italian design brands are showing that there is more and more room for bolder colours, layers and mood-building elements alongside understated elegance.

For me, the key message of the Milan design trends was that a good interior is not exciting if all the elements are perfectly neutral. It's that it has one or two strong, well-chosen details that make it personal and memorable.

To sum up: what direction is interior design taking?

A Salone del Mobile trends based on the One of the main directions for the period 2026-2027 will be a more personal, sensual and characterful spatial design. It's not necessarily about garish interiors, but about details that subtly but firmly set the mood.

For me, the classic elegance of Devon&Devon, the world of freestanding stoves and the bolder stand of Frigerio were the most inspiring this year. They all show that in the years to come, design will not just be a sight, but an experience: a material, a touch, a sense of space and a personal choice.
