Born at home - A young couple's first nest with natural materials and fine details

A living room where a real home is born - and where it's good to arrive

When a young couple buys a new build home, the first question is never where the sofa will go - it's how to make it a home. In this 72-square-metre apartment, we've designed not just for size, but for life: for the needs of the expectant mother, the world of the soon-to-be-born baby, the husband's work at home - and the everyday rituals that really bring the space to life.

The focus this time is on the living-kitchen-dining sequence. A single space that flows into each other, where everything from morning coffee to evening conversations takes place. And filled down to the smallest detail with natural materials, warm tones and finely textured surfaces.

The fireplace: character and warmth in one point

At the heart of the living room is a real fire: a natural stone fireplace with a coarser texture, which is not only a visual feature but also a symbolic centrepiece of the home. Everything is organised around it - the solid wood console table, the practical yet stylish storage, and the modular pull-out sofa that could one day become grandma's bed.

Built-in cupboards on either side of the fireplace will discreetly hide toys, books or a quick blanket for a Sunday afternoon movie. There's a place for everything - but not everything is visible at once. That was one of the key design considerations.

The kitchen: practical, tidy, with playful details

Everything in the kitchen is closed - but not closed. The painted MDF fronts are finished in a creamy, warm tone to allow natural light to flow more freely throughout the space. The ribbed surfaces and glazed, glossy finishes add a subtle playfulness, breaking up the symmetry just enough to make a home.

The fridge, pantry cupboard, even the coffee machine and toaster are all behind closed storage to keep the look neat and tidy. Because in an open space, visual harmony is the most important calming factor.

The dining room: focus on connectivity

The dining room is organised around a solid wood table - the natural grain and sturdy, timeless form of the chosen model is also inviting for everyday use. The matching chairs with their unique white and blue upholstery add a light elegance to the wood.

But our favourite? Definitely the classic pendant lamp above the dining room. Its soft, warm glow spreads across the table as if it's just illuminating a candlelit dinner - even on a Monday morning.

Entrance hall: functionality without compromise

For a family with small children, the hallway cannot be just a decoration - all the functions must work. The shoe storage under the arch, the storage area, the hangers and the cosy pouf together answer the questions "where to put the baby bag" and "where to sit to put shoes".

And there's style too: the back wall of the cupboard behind the entrance has an exceptional patterned tiles which brings playfulness and unique character to an otherwise functional space.

Working at home: designed for retreats

The study corner in the bedroom has been given special attention. The couple specifically requested that the desk for working at home should not be located in the communal area, but in a more relaxed zone. So the home office was moved into the bedroom - so that cooking, playing or the noise of the living room would not disturb concentration and there would be somewhere to retreat to when needed.

Style and inspiration, where home is born

The project is based on the American West Coast aesthetic, where materiality, naturalness, structured surfaces and family-friendly functionality go hand in hand. The style echoes the sensitive world of transitional and traditional styles, attuned to textures and lights - attuned to Hungarian reality, without compromise.

How does a home like this come to life at MM Interiors?

This project is another example of how we are working step by step to make a dream home a reality - from from complete interior design to the final installation. First, detailed we carry out a needs assessment, where we also look at the family's lifestyle, habits and future plans. This is followed by design contract and the conclusion of the concept and furnishing plan where functionally functional spaces, styles, colour palettes and moods are agreed.

During the project moodboards, floor plans, lighting and mechanical plans, as well as accurate furniture and material consignments to create a home that is thought out down to the last detail, feasible and stylish.

We believe that the secret to successful design is thinking together - and that there is a real story behind every decision.
